Are you a supportive, patient and committed individual ready to make a difference in the lives of pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs? We are currently recruiting for a dedicated ALN Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded primary school in Cwmbran. This well-respected school is known for its inclusive ethos and its growing, welcoming staff team.

You’ll be working within a specialist Additional Learning Needs (ALN) setting, supporting pupils aged 3 to 11 who present with SEMH challenges. If you're passionate about helping young learners overcome barriers and thrive, this could be the perfect opportunity to develop your career in a rewarding and supportive environment.

About the role
As an ALN Teaching Assistant, you’ll work alongside a dynamic and experienced team to provide tailored support to children with complex emotional and behavioural needs. Your work will play a vital role in helping pupils feel safe, regulated and engaged in their learning.

This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a dedicated school community that invests in its staff and supports ongoing development and progression.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to children with SEMH

  • Helping pupils regulate their emotions and make positive behaviour choices

  • Supporting access to learning activities and adapting resources when needed

  • Encouraging social interaction, communication and emotional literacy

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff and families

  • Assisting with the day-to-day running of the classroom in collaboration with teaching staff

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience working with children with additional learning needs, ideally SEMH

  • A caring, adaptable and resilient attitude

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with pupils

  • A genuine interest in helping children reach their full potential

  • A willingness to be hands-on and work flexibly as part of a team

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience in an ALN, nurture or alternative provision setting

  • Team Teach or equivalent behaviour support training

What the school offers:

  • A fast-paced, nurturing and supportive learning environment

  • A growing team of skilled, approachable professionals who value collaboration

  • Ongoing CPD and opportunities to build your SEN experience

  • Competitive daily pay from £88.92 to £101.92, paid weekly via PAYE

  • A fulfilling, long-term role that makes a real impact on young lives

This ALN Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone who is eager to work in a meaningful position where no two days are the same. If you’re ready to join a school that’s committed to inclusion, teamwork and pupil wellbeing, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply today to begin your journey as an ALN Teaching Assistant in a school that values your impact and supports your growth.
